Does anybody know where I can find books on early Irish language and literature in English?

Cecilie, a chara,

Tabhair súil ar / Have a look at:

http://www.booksforscholars.com/

That will give you a good idea of what's available. Once you've made some selections, you can always order them from somewhere closer to home. If you begin to get serious about the early language and its literature, you might want to join Old-Irish-L. The archives are available for anyone to peruse:

Excellent site, Dennis! I doubt I will be able to pay though, if I have to draw a check in a US bank. It says I have to in the policy statement and I ordered two books before I discovered that. Silly me.

Shopping for them in Europe, you might try litriocht.com (mostly books in Irish, but they do carry some of the scholarly stuff in English), Kenny's in Galway, or even amazon.uk. That's just off the top of my head. There are plenty more.

And since you were asking about "cén", etc., seo ceist duit:

Cén (< cé + an) leabhar a thogh tú? = Which book did you select?

Cé na leabhair a thogh tú? = Which books did you select?

I have allready checked with litriocht.com and they have none of these books. I have an account on Kenny's homepage and have ordered lots of books therefrom, but found none on early Irish. Most of the books on anything that has to do with Irish lang./lit. are as Gaeilge.

Hehe!

You chose the right moment! :-) I ordered "An Introduction to Old Irish" and "Early Irish Literature". Can't remember the author of the books. They are "basic knowledge"-books. Good for a start at least! I am still striving to restrain myself from ordering the whole catalogue.
