Dia daoibh a chairde, I've been asked by a friend to say a Prayer of the Faithful at his wedding in Limerick next week. He gave it to me in English and asked if I could get it translated to Gaeilge for the Mass Booklet and to read it at the Mass. I think I've translated it fairly well with "Gaeilge na Scoile" but I thought I'd run it by you guys for that "cruinneas breise a chur uirthi." Seo i:

For those less fortunate than ourselves we ask you Lord to give them the strength and support they need to endure their suffering and hardship. Lord Hear Us. Lord Graciously Hear us.

I gcomhar na ndaoine nach bhfuil acu is ata againne, iarraimid ort a Thiarna neart agus tacaiocht a thabhairt doibh chun a bhfulaingt a glacadh. A Thiarna Eist Linn. A Thiarna bi cheansa* is eist linn.

*I recall this response from Gaeltacht days in Eachleim, Co. Maigh Eo many years ago but may have the spelling wrong.

Go raibh maith agaibh!

ceansa(no 'h') in the dictionary says gentle. If you remember that clearly from Mayo then I'm sure it's right, but just to be sure you're sure.

The only thing I can see wrong with it(apart from the h in ceansa and the lack of fadas) is "chun a bhfulaingt a glacadh", I think glacadh should have a h in it. Though, check with one of the better speakers before continuing.

Yes, it's "a ghlacadh".

I gcomhar na ndaoine nach bhfuil acu is atá againne, iarraimid ort, a Thiarna, neart agus tacaíocht a thabhairt dóibh chun a bhfulaingt a ghlacadh. A Thiarna, éist linn. A Thiarna, bí ceansa is éist linn.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh a Dhalta agus a Lughaidh, táim lán-bhuíochasach díbh,

agus tá brón orm mar gheall ar na síne fada a Dhalta, bhíos ró-leisciúl iad a usáid.

Beirigí bua agus beannacht, DM
