hi, does anyone know of any "as Gaeilge" chatrooms on the internet? and if yes, are you able to actually speak to the other people there (ie with microphone on computer, like you can do in some chatrooms). |

www.craiceailte.com has one but no one's on it, they have a forum too, but again no one's usually on it. There are some games though, a shop and a good few pictures, including "Gaeil in aghaidh an chogaidh" (Irish speakers against the war). |

I couldn't make out most of the content on craicceailte but the games were fun, the pictures were nice and so were the shirts. The "Tiocfaidh Ár mBláth" made me snicker. I wonder if you can order them? "Ar ní gnáth orgain cen scéola do ernam esi do innisin scél dara n-esi is mesi dano in fer sin"

quote:"Gaeil in aghaidh an chogaidh" (Irish speakers against the war) Irish speakers against the war = Gaeilgeoirí in aghaidh an chogaidh Irish people against the war = Gaeil in aghaidh an chogaidh There's a difference. |

Except that in certain circles Gaeil is used for Irish speakers, since Gaeilgeoirí has become a term of disrepute, applied to alleged fanatics. Gael in this way is especially common usage in the North, and is applied also to foreigners who speak Irish. The intention is to sell the shirts, but the pages seem to be slightly broken. I know that on Irish Gaelic Translators they occasionally have "live jam" comversations where they chat using the microphone, but nothing formal. Maybe that's something that could be developed. |

I was actually just thinking of this and msn messenger popped into my head. It would be a great device for cross communication in Irish. It can be used as a chat room aswell. I don't have it yet, but if there's anyone interested, say so and I'll look into it. It can be downloaded here: http://messenger.msn.com/ |

I've got MSN, and I've got no one to speak Irish with on it. I suppose I could add some people and do my best to use it. fallout39(at)hotmail.com is my address "Ar ní gnáth orgain cen scéola do ernam esi do innisin scél dara n-esi is mesi dano in fer sin"

And by the way ... this sort of works if you have a microphone and a bit of technical knowledge www.teamspeak.com "Ar ní gnáth orgain cen scéola do ernam esi do innisin scél dara n-esi is mesi dano in fer sin"

hi again, thanks for the input. I agree that something should be done about the lack of chatrooms as Gaeilge. We at Daltai should set one up. is it possible to set one up at the daltai.com site? that would be great! |

We could use the Unilang ( http://home.unilang.org/) chat facility. You can connect either through the web page at http://home.unilang.org/main/chat.php?l=ga or using an IRC client (see the page for instructions). I suggest the channel/chatroom to join should be called #gaeilge. I've tried this before, but unfortunately I'm too busy at work most of the time to chat! |

I actually first came across this forum when I was searching for an online Irish chat a number of months ago. I'd definitely be interested if Daltai set one up, or if people were willing to chat with me over MSN. Especially since I've finally going to start having regular Irish lessons beginning this fall. Mind you, chats with me would be beginner level at best, as I've only just started learning. |

I'd talk with anyone on msn? Why not start a thread inviting ppl to write down their msn address and ppl can start chatting with each other? Ní Síocháin Go Saoirse. Is í slánú na Gaeilge athghabháil na Saoirse

Mo chéad uair ar an ngréasán seo, bhíseomra cainte as gaeilge á lorg agam. Ceapaim gur smaoineamh iontach a bheadh ann ceann a thosnú chun deis a thabhairt di Ghaeilgeoirí an teanga a chur chun cinn tríd é a úsáid go railta 's go forleathan ar nós ar an idirlíon. Dá mba rud é go mbionn tuilleadh dul chuncinn ar an sórt seo ruda an bhféadfá ríomhphost a sheoladh chugam ag : Bheinn an-bhuíoch. Go n-éirí libh. |
