Hello fellow Irishmen. I'm looking to get a Gaelic tattoo to recognize my heritage. I'm thinking of getting "sláinte" down my tricep. I just wanted to know what everyone thinks. My email is if anyone wants to send me a response. |

Hi, Owen: I have a couple of ideas for you. 1) How about a saying like: Is fearr an tsláinte ná na táinte. Health is better than wealth. 2) Maybe you could have the Irish version of your name or your surname as a tattoo. I'm just trying to throw some ideas at you that would have something lasting/meaningful to them, since you're gonna have to live with it for a long time. Are you interested in learning Irish? After a while of studying and speaking Irish, you'd be able to better choose a particular phrase or word that was meaningful to you. All the best, Paul |

well Owen, you asked for it, so here goes, I think it's a stupid idea (a) to have a tattoo on your tricep in the first place(just my opinion) and (b) to use this as a means of showing your heritage. People may very well say "hey who's the dude with the word slantee (phonetic) written on his arm" There are other more rewarding ways of connecting with your heritage, by learning the language, getting into the music, spreading the gospel of Irish culture etc.etc But please no tattoo :o) Slán Paul |

I agree tatoos are great! i have many but when your'e trying to use a tatoo to promote heritage- dude that is pretty lame way to do it, language music and art are what culture is.... not a slaite tatoo. learn Irish then put it on your body (watch out for typo's the guy in NJ had "FIGHTING ISRIH" and that is really lame a clown on a clown. so choose well. go to a good and freakishly clean shop ask for brand new needles check out the tatooist work on other people dont just do a cold walk in...you might pay not only for the tatoo but with some health concerns, if the tatooist wants to come to your home just say no. But tatoo's are great i have many.10-12 and also think of the placement in 10-15 years you might not feel the same way as you do now. mise le meas dan |

Suggestion.... might want to look at BullseyeTattoos.com. Go to Celtic/Irish in the Tattoo Categories... |
