Hey there! I came upon this site ( http://www.mylanguageexchange.com) and was wondering if anyone has had experiences with it. Maybe I'm too suspicious but all this talking about "free membership" makes me ... well, a little bit suspicious ;-). After all, it sounds like a good idea, doesn't it? le meas sgm |

There is a catch to it. If you're not a "gold" member, you can't initiate contact with others; you can only add yourself to the datsbase and hope someone will contact you. Someone on another board said she contacted several people, and none of them wanted to work with her because she was a beginner. Níl aon fhios eile agamsa faoin clár sin. Tá suim agamsa i dTibéidis (Tibetan), agus bhí cupla duine ar an liosta ag foghlaim Béarla a bhfuil Tibéidis acu. If anyone is looking for a penpal to learn a language with, there is a wonderful program offered through the University of the Ruhr in Bochum, Germany. Their site (in English) is here: http://www.slf.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/email/stats-eng.html They match people who are trying to learn each other's language, taking into account skill level, age, etc. I signed up ten years ago, and I can highly recommend it. No complaints, other than a few less than enthusiastic partners, but eventually I was paired up with a wonderful partner, and we have been friends ever since. Unfortunately, there are very few Irish speakers there, but maybe that'll change. As they say on the site: "Even if your target language does not appear in this list, feel free to request an eTandem learning partner! We will try and find one for you." If you speak English, the available partners are here: http://ta.slf.rub.de/pa/pr/wait-indiv.php?lang=en&input=Show The page for Irish speakers is here: http://ta.slf.rub.de/pa/pr/wait-indiv.php?lang=ga&input=Show Aaron |

Thanks a lot, Mhwombat! That's what I wanted to know. Tá brón orm ach níl aon Tibéidis agam... Aaron, from what I read on that site it's suppose to work on the same bases, but for me they seem way more sympathic. le meas sgm |
