Hello! it's me again. I was just wondering is anyone reading/has read 'Dochtuir na bPiast' by Maidhc Dainin O Se? I'm reading it for one of my modules in college and I found it understandable until it got to the part about John Walters the American and the whole business with the Mafia and his wife and son. I don't get it. I don't use a dictionary when I read because I found that when I did that, it detracted from the reading and was extremely time-consuming. I haven't used a dictionary to read this book and was enjoying it thoroughly but now I feel that maybe I've missed out on some stuff. But anyhoo, does anyone know what happened his wife, and why? I think it's around page 47. |

I don't know, but I just started 'Mura mBuafam - Suathfam' by Maidhc Dainín Ó Sé last night in a book club and after just a few pages his writing seems pretty tough to get through without a dictionary. The dialog parts aren't hard, but the descriptions are. (Even with the dictionary I don't get the title!) Good luck! |

Mura mBuafam, Suathfam is a corca dhuibhne saying. I think it means "(even)If we don't win, we'll shake them". Where's Jonas when he's needed? Dochtúir na bPiast is one of Maidhc Dainín's I haven't read. But he has a mafia novel about a guy from Corca Dhuibhne who goes over and gets mixed up with the Mafia. Greenhorn, I think it was. Maidhc Dainín and Dainín Dan (his father) both spent time in Chicago. |
