Hello everyone....

Im new to the board and I just wanted to say Hello first and formost. I was just curious to see who some of your favorite Irish Singers might be these days?

I really have not been able to get enough of Ronan Tynan since I got his cd last week. He has such an amazing voice and really know how to make the listener feel the words that he is singing. But what else would you expect from the worlds most famous irish tenor? hahaha. Anyways, if you guys havent heard of him, you should check out his website and let me know what you think. www.ronantynan.net ,

Oh yeah, who are some of your favorite irish singers?

Although they're not a singer, but a band, I'm a big fan of the Frames. I've a feeling they're going to make it big internationally in a few years.

On a related note, has anyone heard the 'Seachtain na Gaeilge' CD released in Ireland to celebrate 'Irish Week'? It contains songs sang by famous Irish artists with the lyrics translated to Irish. Bands such as Paddy Casey, Kila, The Frames and Mundy feature on the CD. Chun tuilleadh eolas a fháil (to get further information), look at http://www.snag.ie/Dluthdhiosca.htm

I like Nan Tom Teaimín de Búrca, you can listen to her singing on this programme from WFUV in New York. You have to listen to a bit of guff from the presenter first, but it's worth waiting for the second song he plays - Amhrán Mhaínse. Have a listen:

Also, Seosamh Ó hÉanaí (Joe Heaney) is considered to be one of the finest sean nós singers ever, I can't really vouch for that:

This guy, Peadar Ó Ceannabháin, is pretty good:

I also like the voice of the lead singer of Na hAncairí (John Beag Ó Flatharta):

You can hear samples of their work here:

Is aoibhinn liom Kíla agus go mór mór a lyrics. Tá SnaG '05 agam agus is maith liom é. Níl mé craicealta faoi Nina Hynes, ach fairplé dí as amhráin a casadh i nGaeilge ann.

I love the duet of Brian Kennedy and Máire Bhreatnach in "Éist a Stór" as a one-off performance. Actually, I've never heard him sing in Irish otherwise, but if he did a CD "as Gaeilge", I'd have to buy it.
