Tá mé cinnte gur chuala daoine as Béal Feirste fá na chúrsaí seo. Le fada fada anuas tá linn snámha mór lonnaithe ar Bhóthar na bhFál i mBéal Feirste, agus ar na mallaibh tógadh foirgneamh nua ach níl na fógraí thart an áit ach i mBéarla amháin. Is cinéal "Ceathrú Gaeltacht" é an cheantar sin agus cónaíonn a lán páistí a fhreastalaíonn ar na bhunscoileanna atá ann ansin, agus de ghnáth níl siad in inmhe Béarla a léamh go dtí Rang 3. Níl na teaghlaigh a chónaíonn ansin sasta ach ní éistíonn Comhairle Béal Feirste leo; tá siadsan ag rá go mbeidh fógraí ann i gcúpla teanga éagsúla, ach chan an Ghaeilge. Tá mise, mar Gaelgóir, iontach feargach leis an Chomhairle. Is mar ciceáil sa bholg é do Gaelgóirí! |

It is indeed arrogant to do so. It seems the spirit of the agreement does not live in practice. The council of the city would be english speaking and wouldnot have time for gaeilge; still they'd put in signs in Portugese if there were a lot of Iberian people about for 'community realtions', but as always charity is never easiest at home. Reminds me of how the INTO and Catholic Church clubbed in with the government to set up the Commision on School Accomodation (CSA), one job of which it was designed to do was halt the growth of gaelscoilleanna by lifting the bar excessively high for start-up numbers, as well as without explanation denying scool status to up and runnign gaelscoils, even when criteria have been met. As I see it, the gaeilge movement will ahve to structure its own finances thru buisness and commerce if it is to be successful. Without independant money, it is attached on the forces that seek to destroy it. An irony indeed. |

Without independant money, it is attached on the forces that seek to destroy it. An irony indeed. Seo an teoiric is tábhachtaí a luadh le roinnt blianta. Is dóigh liom gur mhaígh Deasún Breatnach blianta ó shin, go gcaithfeadh muintir na Gaeilge banc a bhunú le dul chun cinn ceart a dhéanamh. A luaithe is ea is fearr é. Creidim go n-éireodh leis ach leathbhreac Ken Whitaker a bheith ina bhun ag an tús. |
