I am writing a song for an exam and it is a folk song. I wanted to translate a couple of lines into Irish. If anyone can help, could you write it in Irish and then spell it phoinetically so I am able to say it?!

"Oh will you look to the stars with me?
Oh, please look to the stars with me."

Más é do thoil é, breathnaigh liom chuig na realtaí.

I have two concerns with this...actually, three.

1) I'm not sure that breathnaigh is the correct form. It's in the imperative (I think) but the future conditional might be more correct.

2) Ar versus Chuig...ar sounds right but chuig gives a better direct translation. I don't know which (if either) sounds right to the native ear. A Aonghuis?

3) Your use of the term "Oh" doesn't lend itself to the Irish vocative "A" in this case, I don't think. Usually the vocative is followed by a subject and in this case the subject is implied rather than stated.

Word for word or direct translations from english to Irish are problematic. Let one of the native speakers or at least more fluent (Aonghus and Jonas come to mind) chime in before you commit your grade to this!

James, you’re right, there are mistakes in what you wrote...

It would be:

Ó, le do thoil, amharc ar na réaltaí liom.

Here are the mistakes:
>An breathnaigh liom chuig na realtaí?

That 'an' is followed by urú, breathnaigh is the imperative, you need a future here. There is no subject (you) in your sentence. Chuig means to, towards. For to say "look at something", i'm not sure you can use anything other than "ar".

>Más é do thoil é, breathnaigh liom chuig na realtaí.
I would put "liom" at the end of the sentence. Same problem with "chuig" instead of "ar". Long stroke missing on the e of réaltaí. You have to put it, ea is different from éa in pronounciation:
ea /a/
éa /e:/
