I'm an American and part-time performer of Irish and Irish/American stories (mostly for school children, right now). I've one story that I would like to be able to say "What is stolen is cursed" in Irish (the idea being that the thief will get no use from what he steals). My attempts to learn the language haven't gotten me far enough yet, I'm afraid.
At least I can say "go raibh maith agat" in advance for your help!

Oops! You mean New Jersey is in America?! Not from the view in Ohio! --laughter-- Sorry, I was cruising Eire-based sites before hitting this one and forgot I was back in the States! And felt very foolish when I realized what I'd said...

Cathy, I wish you success in learning Irish.
This is how I would translate "What is stolen is cursed"
Leanann mallacht rud a ghoidtear ( lit: a curse follows a thing that's stolen)

beir bua
Kay.

Email me if you need a sound file.

Thank you, Kay, that's is exactly what I needed. I've been trying to study on my own, but it hasn't been easy--Irish is so very unlike English or the Romance languages! But then Bíonn gach tosú lag.
Cathy
