I have seen a couple of posts that list several names for Granma or Grandmother. Could someone please give me the phonetic pronunciation? I live in Dedham, MA, USA with an Irish background on my Mothers side and am trying in small ways to connect to my Irish heritage. This being one way. Thanks for any help,
Donna

Seanmhathair, literally "old mother" would be something like "Shan wah hir" or "Shan wahr" depending or where you hear it. I've missed a fada or two in the spelling....Séanmháthair

Mamo is a diminutive, affectionate term that sounds about like it's spelled...Mam O.

There are some native speakers and some Irish born who can probably do better at this than I have. But, I didn't want your post to go unanswered for too long!

Hope this helps.

Le meas,

James

James,
Thank you very much for your response. This was my second post for this information. I was beginning to lose hope.
God bless,
Donna
