"Phós Noel iníon ridire miantoll as Montana agus bhí sé ar dhuine de na lianna ba chlúitiúla i Nua-Eabhrac."

I'm not sure what "miantoll" is. I thought it might have something to do with mining. Also, I'm not familiar with the construction, "bhí sé ar dhuine de na lianna...". I'm pretty sure of its meaning, but I don't know why it means what it means. "He was on one of the physicians"???

Context is everything :-), but if this is Montana in the late 19th century, I'm pretty sure an Irishman would have been mining either silver or copper.

There you have me. I know naught about Montana then or now. But it is not said that the father in law was Irish - simply that he was a "ridire miantoll" or a "something" Baron. I was speculating that miantoll might have been an Ó Cadhain construct for petroleum like artola.
