..Gidheadh ní fíor dó sin. Bíodh a fhios agat gurab é Cumhall mac Tréanmhóir an ceathramhadh glún ó Nuadha Neacht rí Laighean fá athair dó, agus Muirn Mhunchaomh inghean Thaidhg mic Nuadhat draoi Chathaoir Mhóir fá máthair dó. Agus fá hi Almha Laighean fá fearann díleas do Thadhg mac Nuadhat, agus is da bhíthin sin do ráinig Almha Laighean d'Fhionn i gceart a mháthar. Gidheadh is é rí Laighean tug Formaoil na bhFian dó i n-Uíbh Cinnsealaigh mar a bhfuil Luimneach Laighean aniú....

Go raibh maith agat,

It's an extract from an old Irish book- with loads of names and howevers and stuff.

Unless it's really important.....there is no point..

Tabharfaidh mé faoi mura mhiste leat, a Alec.

..Gidheadh ní fíor dó sin.
although, it isn't true for him to say such.

Bíodh a fhios agat
You must understand

gurab é Cumhall mac Tréanmhóir an ceathramhadh glún ó Nuadha Neacht rí Laighean fá athair dó,
that Cumhall m. T. is the fourth generation from Nuadha N., the king of Leinster, who was his father, (i.e. Fionns father)

agus Muirn Mhunchaomh inghean Thaidhg mic Nuadhat draoi Chathaoir Mhóir fá máthair dó.
and Muirn Mh., the daughter of Tadhg mac N., Cathaoir Mór's druid, was his mother.

Agus fá hi Almha Laighean fá fearann díleas do Thadhg mac Nuadhat, agus is da bhíthin sin do ráinig Almha Laighean d'Fhionn i gceart a mháthar.
Also, the Hill of Allen in Leinster, was the rightful land of Tadhg mac N., and it is because of this that the Hill of Allen in Leinster became Fionn's by way of his mother.

Gidheadh is é rí Laighean tug Formaoil na bhFian dó i n-Uíbh Cinnsealaigh mar a bhfuil Luimneach Laighean aniú....
However, it is the king of Leinster who gave Formaoil na bhFian in Uíbh Cinnsealaigh to him, (the place) where Luimneach Laighean is today ....

n.b. Uíbh Cinnsealaigh = the Wexford area and Formaoil north of Guaire is the place mentioned.

A Alva,
Tá mé cinnte go bhfuil leagan Béarla de FFÉ an Chéitinnigh ar fáil saor in aisce ar an idirlíon. Níor mhiste saibhseáil thart i gcás mar seo. Amharc isteach ar CELT Ollscoile Chorcaí nó ar ISOS. (lámhscríbhinní Chnoc Mellary go háirithe)
Más spéis leat bunús Gaeilge 'Alva', cuimhnigh ar 'Álmath' Dhál Riada. Féach Ó Corráin & Maguire, Gaelic Personal Names.
