Is it ever correct to say "tá sé iontach"? Or must it always be "tá sé go h-iontach"?

Tá sé go hiontach.

The hyphen is optional. 95% of people leave it out.

Saying "Tá sé iontach" would be exactly like saying "I didn't went to the pub". It's definitely intelligible, but that's just not how it's done!

Braith an abha sula raghair ina cuilithe a Fhear na mBróg. Glac go réidh le tuairim a dhéanamh den bharúil.

Is é an leagan gan an réamhfhocal 'go' an ceann stairiúil agus tharla go bhfuil sé rábach (féach gur roghnaíos 'go' a sheachaint sa chás so) ó thuaidh i gcónaí is fíre a rá go bhfuil gach éinne eile ar shiúl leis an ainchleachtadh, ainchleachtadh iar-Normannach más ceadmhach dom a rá, murar ar shiúl leis na péileacáin iad. Níl sé mórán céadta bliain ó shin ó bhí 'tá sin maith', 'tá sin iontach' le clos in gach cearn in Éirinn agus fágaim trácht ar Albain faoi dhuine éigin eile agaibh.

(Nodaim don eolach faoin bhfleiscín; seachain.)

For the benefit of ....

The answer to your question is that both "tá sé iontach" and "tá sé go hiontach" are correct.
