Having recently found this website, I have been seriously impressed by the working and organisation of 'Daltai'. The weekends/ weeks away and cruises sound like a wonderfully fun way of getting a chance to use Gaeilge.

I'm from Dublin, and am a fluent Irish speaker (or at least I was seven years ago), and I know a good few people on this website are from Dublin too. I was wondering if they know of any events in Ireland of the standard/ type offered by Daltai in New Yark. I've been to the gaeltacht several times in my teenage years, but I was wondering what there is in this country for adults.

I'd also like to take this oppertunity to commend Daltai for their excellent and accessable website.

Janet

http://www.oideas-gael.com run all sorts of courses in Gleann Colm Cille, including Hillwalking, Pottery etc.

If you're in Dublin:
There is a discussion group meeting every other Thursday in Trí D on Dawson Street. (Between Eason's and Waterstones) on every second Thursday. This Thursday is the next one. Michal Boleslav Mechura (a Czech, who is also Beo's Webmaster) organises it, and will announce it on the Beo discussion board http://www.beo.ie/ple a few days before.

Also, on the alternate Thursday there is Club Sult in the Castle Inn near Christ Church: http://www.clubsult.com.

There is also a hillwalking group which goes out once a fortnight.

Ní fhaca mé, le líon an tslua, i mBÁC Dé Sathairn thú a Aonghuis. Ba mhór an mhaith an lá mór.

I dtaca le ceist Janet, níl a fhios agam an mbíonn muintir tae agus caife Dé hAoine 13.00 - 14.00 ag cruinniú i gcónaí i siopa Connolly Books, gar do Bharra an Teampaill. Bheadh a fhios ag muintir an Chonartha, 6 Sr. Fhearchair. Crios Ní Choisdealbha a bhí taobh thiar de lár na nóchaidí.

Na mise thusa - choinnigh mé súil amach do bratach Luimní, ach theip orm ceann a fheiscint. Slua iontach a bhí ann.

Meirgí beaga crochta ag triúr nó ceathrar againn. As Sligeach na Séad mé féin ach bhí brathach mhór an Chabháin crochta ar leathláimh agam seal tamaill sa slua agus clár le Conradh na G. Luimnigh sa leathláimh eile ag an am céanna. Bhíos tríchúigiúil go maith an lá sin.

D'éirígh mé ábhairín tochtach ag Ardoifig an Phosta nuair a bhreathnaíos ar an slua agus chuimhnigh siar ar na blianta a thosaigh le Forógra na Cásca nach raibh ach trí fhocal Ghaeilge ann (Seán Mac Diarmada), ar na blianta fada gan RnaG, gan bealach teilifíse, gan nuachtán seachtainiúil ná nuachtán lae, gan stádas sa Bhruiséal ná meas sa bhaile. Sin an rud a thug a oiread den slua linn, anuas den chosán. Tá caite leis an teanga seo ar bhealaí fíoreisceachtúla nuair a chuimhníos tú air. 'Normálú' a deirtear le teanga atá follán. Tháinig sí thríd an gcuid ba mheasa. Ní rachaimid siar. Níor cheart seasamh ná sosadh ach oiread. Le theacht an stádais, caithfear treisiú le bearnaí na meán a líonadh agus le hiarrachtaí na Gaelollscolaíochta. Tiús cainteoirí a theastaíonn sa bhaile mór. A bhfuil sa Ghaeltacht, feicfidh siad an méid sin agus misneofar iad tuilleadh.

Faoi dheifir.
