It sounded something like "Sante ga saile gut". I don't speak Gaelic. How do you spell this saying in Irish? What does it mean?

Hmm.
Sante is probably Sláinte.
The "ga saile" has me a bit confused.
But I think it's probably
"Slaínte agus saol dhuit"
I wish you health and (long) life

Aongus --

That must be it! Thank you for letting me know.

How is the best way to pronounce it?

-- John

Aonghus --

Forgive me for mistyping your name.

I had one more question.

What is Irish for "Congratulations!"

-- John

Dia duit.

Does anyone know the Irish equivalent of "images"?
I am a photographer with an extensive focus on Ireland and I would like to name my collection 'Images" in Irish. If anyone knows the translation for photographs, pictures, etc., these would also be helpful. I did find the word "aisling", a dream or vision, in a book on Irish mythology. This would work nicely, but does anyone know the plural?

Go raibh maith agat.

Maire

I need to check the "fadas" on this - I don't have a dictionary at the moment, and the Foclóir beag (http://www.csis.ul.ie/focloir/default.HTM) seems to be gone mad.

John: sorry, but I am no good at writing pronunciation. Perhaps somebody else can help you there. If you had left your e-mail address I'd have a go at sending you a wav file!

Congratulations is "comhghairdeas"

As you might have guessed, we are experiencing problems with the Forums. We hope to have the board restored by this evening.

Thanks for your patience.

Thank you, Caoimhin, for clarifying that because I was beginning to wonder whether the message I sent yesterday to the other discussion board had been censored (paranoia setting in, among other things)!!! Go n'eiri leat! Jim
