A Chairde, Chuaigh ár gcara díl, Barra Ó Donnabháin, ar shlí na Fírinne ar maidin, 12 d'Iúil 2003. Is mian le Daltaí na Gaeilge a gcomhbhrón a chur in iúil dá bhean chéile, Delia, is a mbeirt chlainne, Brendan agus Máire, is dá mhuintir is a chairde uilig atá uaigneach ina dhiaidh. Ar dheis Dé agus i measc na nGael go raibh a anam uasal. Go han-mhaith dea-sheirbhiseach iontaofa thú. Gabh isteach in aoibhneas do Thiarna. Mt. 25:23 |

Our beloved friend, Barra, died this morning, July 12, 2003, after struggling valiantly with cancer. Daltaí na Gaeilge wishes to express its sorrow to his wife, Delia, and their children, Brendan and Maura. May God comfort them in their sorrow and may he comfort Barra's brothers and sister and his many many friends. Ar dheis Dé agus i measc na nGael go raibh a anam uasal. "Well done O good and faithful servant. Come share your Master's joy." Mt. 25:23 |

Eibhlín it is very sad news indeed. I am myself forever indebted to Barra for his kindness, for his hospitality, for sharing the insight of brilliant mind and his sáreolas ar an nGaeilge. Every person whose life he has touched knows that the loss to his family and his community is inestimable. See you at the wake. |

Eileen, I opened my copy of the Irish Echo Saturday July 19th. There it was in black and white that Barra was with God. I was at the shore that week and only returned on Saturday. I think that if all the coloums that Barra wrote for the Echo could be collected, maybe a book could be made of them. He will be greatly missed. He was so informative on so many subjects and a great man in any case. I have a duaghter who has colon cancer and I shutter any time I hear of someone who passes away from that illness. |
