hello, i have been learning irish for the past few months and i must say it is a beautiful language. i have been going through books, cd's, and just about everything i can get my hands on from oideas gael. my teacher is from gweedore which is in the northern donegal area and i have noticed that things she has taught me are a little different from the irish classes i have recently stated taking... the most noticable thing i have seen is that when she pronunciates words ending in -adh, -eadh...it comes out as an "oo" sound. "ag séideadh" comes out like "eg shayd-oo" but in this irish class it sounds like "eg shayd-uh" are there any other major differences in pronunciations like this? geabhin |

Loads of minor differences, way too many to enumerate here, but they are just local colour rather than a bar to comprehension. For example, they pronounce the number 7 as 'seart' rather than 'seacht', thinking is 'smaoitiú' rather than 'smaoineadh'. It's just minor differences really. |
