I use some Irish phrases in public with my wife if I want to be discreet. What would be the typical phrase to indicate that an infant would need a diaper change?

thanks

You would do Ok with

Ní mór dúinn an chlúta a athrú

We need to/should change the 'nappy'.

or if you are a 'liberated' man-heheeh

Ní mór dom an chlúta a athrú.

I should change the nappy.

Nappy=English word used in Ireland for american 'diaper' which has never been used here.

other suggestions welcome!

Tá sé (an clúidín) ar maos arís!
It (the diaper) is soaked again!

Or another very simple one:

Tá boladh as.
It smells.

Dennis seems to more correct with the word 'Clúidín' for Diaper/Nappy

I seem to remember 'Clúta' from my dim and distant past- but I can't find it in any Foclóir

so go with 'Clúidín'and a simpe phrase is

Tá an clúidín salach.
The diaper is soiled.

and if you want to me more elaborate

agus tá sé in am dúinn é a atrhú
and it's time for it to be changed(for us to change it)

as usual corrections/suggestions more than welcome

Depending on the gender of your child, you may also want to learn something along the line of "cover yourself up!". There's a phase when little girls play bashful or peek-a-boo by pulling their skirts up about their faces. Also good when they're older to have a cue for Trips to the W.C.
