Surely there are "live" Irish chat rooms somewhere to be found. Can someone please tell me just where to look? That is, chat rooms where beginners can join in with those more blessed tongues of native Blarney in attempts to more "actively" learn the language.

A place where even the muderous misspelling of each and every Irish word is wonderfully accepted and perceived as simply the racing mind of an esoteric Irish genius who will soon have all the other "chatters" in awe ("... give him time, just give him time."). A place where all others will daily rush to (even at risk of losing jobs, family ... even sanity itself) in riotous attempts to help this one "yet" undiscovered luminary linquist and rising star of soon world renown. A place where every searching soul will greedily wade through his each and every genocidal mangling of the entire "Rules of the Irish Language" (to include those not yet even invented)in gleeful expectation of deciphering his innumerable "pearls of wisdom" that are so skillfully hid amongst his criptic creation of hereto unmatched raging-convolution. Yes, a place where no one, not one, will take offense of their soon shown "lesser" mental ranking as they watch him in fluent mastery command -- almost instantaneously, of but a few mere years -- his first "greetings in Irish". And yet, he does not come to discourage others who would dare not even dream to match his phonetic feats -- no, rather, he comes to but inspire. To lead! To show the world the "higher heights" they may one day reach. Oh, but where, pray tell me where, such a place as this may be found?

And ... if not ... then how about a place where a linquistic lughead might join in for a quick over-apologizing minute before suffering a most painful cyber-crucifixion in the first ever recorded "Chat Room Murder". HELP -- PLEASE HELP!!!!

You could try out Paltalk, in the "As Gaeilge" room, or even MSN.

Le meas,
Larry.

Brian, a chara,

The times vary - I think it's just a question of catching it when the administrators are online...

Larry.

Larry,
Which category would it be found under(Language, European, Nationality, Misc...)?

Could you give us a link?

Brían

Larry,

Is its listing always shown - or only when in use? I went their last night and went under "Languages: Europe" and could not find it.

Also, do you know where there is a live "text" chat room in Irish for any level? Thanks much for your help.

Bernie

Bernie, a chara,

No, it isn't always there - only when one of the moderators are online. I'm one of them, but the pressures of work don't allow me to spend as much time online as I would like. The channel was originally established as a forum for learners, rather than for those who are fluent, but all are welcome.

There's a channel on mIRC called #ireland, but for much of the time it's users type in English. I've seldom found anybody in there who can - or who wishes to - speak Irish.

If anybody else has any other information, I too would be pleased to receive it.

Le meas,
Larry.

Gillian, a chara,

You'll need to download their software from http://www.paltalk.com/paltalk2/index.html and then register with a nickname.

Le meas,
Larry.

Níl mé ábalta an seomra 'as gaeilge' a aimsiú ar Phaltalk!
An bhfuil sé i "by language:Europe"?
Scríobh ar ais chugam le do thoil,
Go raibh míle maith agat,
Gill

Gillian, a chara,

I logged on last night (Friday) and was in As Gaeilge for about 20 minutes. Unfortunately, I was the only moderator there, and I couldn't stay. Sadly, it seems the other moderators are as busy as myself.

But the room is indeed in Languages: Europe (when it's up and running).

Le meas,
Larry.

Tá súil agam go bhfeicfidh mé éinne ann,

Brían
