Tá a fhios ag an domhain anois na tubaistí a bhuail na daoine bochta ag an World Trade Center, an Pentagon agus in eitleán i gCoill Phenn. (The entire world now knows of the calamaties that befell the pour souls at the World trade Center, the Pentagon and in an airplane over Pennsylvania.) Níl na focail againn chun ár ngruaim a shloinn, ach tá brón ó chroí orainn faoi. Go háirithe, tá muid ag guí ar son na marbh, agus ar son ball Dhaltaí na Gaeilge a chaill teaghlaigh, cairde agus comharsan. (Words fail us in trying to express our sadness, but we are heartsick about it. In particular, we pray for those who died, and for the members of Daltaí na Gaeilge who lost family, friends and neighbors.) The son of Seán and Helen Tierney, John Patrick, was a New York City fireman, and he lost his life at the World Trade Center that day. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Seán Tierney is one of Daltaí na Gaeilge's most loyal and beloved teachers; and he is also one of the Editors of this FORUMS page. Seán and his family have been greatly comforted by all of the prayers and kindnesses they have received in this tragic situation. In light of circumstances it might be many months before their son's body is recovered, if ever. Because of that, the family has chosen to hold a service at the Colonial Funeral Home (Staten Island) on Friday, October 5th and a Memorial Mass on Saturday, October 6th at St. Charles Catholic Church. All of the details follow. (Also, members who have Daltaí na Gaeilge salmon pins might want to consider wearing them to the services if they are able to attend.) A chairde, The family respectfully requests that flowers not be sent to either of the services. They would prefer instead, that if you were planning to send flowers you consider making a donation to the firehouse where John Patrick worked. The firehouse has been exemplary in providing unending support of every kind to the families of those firemen who lost their lives in this tragedy. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir. A chairde, Ag an tSeirbhís oíche Dé hAoine (7-9 u.t.) beidh cúpla paidreacha i nGaeilge againn, agus beidh cóipeanna (billeoga) le fáil roimh ré ag an Colonial Funeral Home. Má tá tú ann, bí linn, má's é do thoil é. [At the Service on Friday evening (7-9 p.m.) we will be praying a few prayers in Irish, and there will be copies (handouts) available beforehand at the Colonial Funeral Home. If you are there, PLEASE join us.] Agus scaip an scéal i measc na nGaeilgeoirí, má's é do thoil é. [And please spread the news about this among the Gaeilgeoirí.] Go raibh maith agat. |
