I am of mostly Irish heritage. I have a new grandson who will be christened next Sunday. Since there we are of a blended family(3 of 4 parents divorced and remarried) I am especially proud that my grandson carries MY 'y' chromosome. He too has mostly Irish heritage in his blood. Instead of him calling me Grandpa, Gramps, or something similar I would like for him to call me the Gaelic equivialent. It does not have to be the formal name, even a 'familiar' name(the English-language equivalent of 'Pop' or something) will suffice. Hopefully it will be short and relatively easy to pronounce. Daideo is the familiar form - which approximates to Grandpa.
Sean athair is far more formal. |
