I am of mostly Irish heritage. I have a new grandson who will be christened next Sunday. Since there we are of a blended family(3 of 4 parents divorced and remarried) I am especially proud that my grandson carries MY 'y' chromosome. He too has mostly Irish heritage in his blood. Instead of him calling me Grandpa, Gramps, or something similar I would like for him to call me the Gaelic equivialent. It does not have to be the formal name, even a 'familiar' name(the English-language equivalent of 'Pop' or something) will suffice. Hopefully it will be short and relatively easy to pronounce. Can anyone help me with suggestions? If this forum is not to your suiting you can e-mail me : dloftus@lucent.com

P.S. Also, while your at it, do you have a translation, formal or familiar, for "step-grandmother"? Thanks.

Well now ye she ass!

Daideo is the familiar form - which approximates to Grandpa.

Sean athair is far more formal.

The question has been dealt with in detail. Caoimhín provided the links to previous answers to this question. Juile, or whatever her name is, should have tried the links first.
