"Tá grá agam ort" might be a bit better, though.

But that is to say "I Love you" a Mháire.
She said she wanted "My love is upon you" and that's what I gave her.

An ceart agat, a fhear Laighean. Ní hionann an dá abairt.

Tá tuairim laidir agamsa gur droch aistriú ar "Tá grá agam ort" a bhí sa leagan Bhearla, agus go raibh sí ag iarraidh é aistriú thar nais.

Cosúileacht "may the road rise with you" ar an abairt!

Go raibh maith agat, a Aonghus. B'in go díreach an tuairim a bhí agamsa.

Tá 'My love is upon you' aisteach mar Bhéarla agus bhí mé ag meas gur iarracht 'bheith Gaelach tíriúil a bhí ann, go díreach cosúil le 'may the road rise to meet you' (leagan níos coitianta agus níos measa ná mar atá ag Aongus thuas!)

Má's amhlaidh, níl sé ceart Gaeilge a chur a leithéid ar chor ar bith. Bheadh sé níos fearr insint do dhaoine go bhfuil siad ar an bhealach mhícheart, nach bhfuil sé ceart Béarla bréag-Éireannach a chumadh sa chéad áit, gan trácht ar an drochnós a tharraingt isteach sa Ghaeilge féin!Ná truaillítear an tobar.

Ar ndóigh, bíonn cead ag daoine dul níos faide ná bunGhaeilge nó bunBhéarla nó bunteanga ar bith eile agus éirí níos filiúnta, níos drochfhiliúnta nó níos foclaí. B'fhéidir go mbeadh fáth aici a leithéid a rá seachas Gaelachas bréagach

'Gaeilge a chur AR a leithéid', ar ndóigh.
