Hello All:
This question is more "literary" than linguistic, but from the responses I've read on this forum, you are a literary lot.
As a youngster, my grandparents came to America to care for me when my mom got sick. My pop-pop (Michael Egan from Knock, Mayo) used to bounce me on his knee singing a number of dittys. The one I liked best began: "Brian Boru conquered the Danes... " Do any of you recognize that ditty/peom/song? I'm wondering if it had a gaelic original. I recall that the Danes are referred to as "dark danes" in the rhyme as well (dark for thier armor I presume, not complexions!)
Any help you can provide would restore some wonderful memories.
Thanks.
